UK men are reportedly buying a record amount of hair loss, weight loss and impotence products. UK’s Daily Mail reported sales have soared by 40 percent compared to sales from the previous year.

Ironically, experts point to the recent recession as the reason. Stress caused by market uncertainty can increase stress, decrease sex-drive and is known to cause hair loss.

Why Humans Lost Their Body Hair

An article by Scientific America makes no claim as to why humans lost their body hair, but they certainly give it their best shot.

While I tend to agree more with the comments made by a reader, I have to admit the article is an interesting read.

Perhaps it was the speculation as to why we lost all our hair only to wear fur that captured my attention… or maybe I just like the use of  the word ‘neanderthal’.

Either way I say give it a read.

Cheveux Cheris or Beloved Hair is an exhibition at Paris’ Quai Branly museum that displays many of the hairstyles humans have worn throughout history – as far back as 25,000 BCE to the present day.

Because it takes creativity and effort to make hair look good,  it’s something that differentiates us from the rest of the animal kingdom.

The curator, Yves Le Fur says each object had contained the energy of a human being and provides a doorway between the living and the dead.

This patient from the UK decided to write a public letter at hairrestorationnetwork.com, thanking Dr Rahal.

One of the pleasures of working at Rahal is hearing all of the positive things our patients have to say about their experience with us.

Often patients will speak of how their hair transplant has restored their confidence and removed the emotional barriers that hair loss creates.

If he’s happy then we’re happy!

According to researchers from the Department of Stomatology at the University of Granada in Spain, there is a relationship between dental disease and hair loss.

The study was featured in the British Dental Journal and claimed researchers noticed how alopecia areata, a type of hair loss thought to be auto-immune in nature, is closely associated with dental infections.

Researchers strongly advise anyone with a case of alopecia areata to schedule an appointment with their dentist for a thorough examination.

At his Bank Street clinic, Dr. Rahal became the first to perform a robot assisted hair transplant procedure in Canada. The ARTAS® system uses a one millimeter punch to lift hair follicles from the donor area of the patient.

However,  at this time, technology can only do so much. With the skill of a master painter, Dr. Rahal then transplants the follicles back into the patients head to design a head of hair that can truly be called a work of art.

How Hair Loss Can Save Your Life

A recent study concluded that men with vertex baldness are at “moderate risk” for prostate cancer.

Evidence has emerged which links prostate cancer and hair loss. And this new link could potentially save lives. Until now, risk factors for prostate cancer included age, ethnicity and family history. You can now add hair loss to the list.

A recent study asked one thousand adult men diagnosed with prostate cancer to look at the Hamilton-Norwood scale and select the hair loss pattern that closely resembled their own. The study found that men with vertex (crown) baldness are at greater risk for prostate cancer.

It seems that testosterone is the culprit. Studies suggest that higher levels of free testosterone, seen in men with vertex baldness, can stimulate an abnormality in the prostate gland and increase prostate cancer risk.

Other than skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. Men with vertex baldness are encouraged to discuss the benefits and risks of prostate cancer screening with their doctors.

Spencer Kobren Inspires Hope for Hair Loss Sufferers

A picture of Spencer David Kobren hosting The Bald Truth radio show.

Spencer Kobren hosts a nationally syndicated radio program (Spencer Kobren’s The Bald Truth) for hair loss sufferers.”Our goal is to provide the truth to the public,” said Spencer, who is committed to fighting the silent epidemic of male pattern baldness.

Spencer Kobren is a hair loss consumer advocate

Spencer David Kobren, 47, is the founder and president of The American Hair Loss Association (AHLA) and The International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons (IAHRS). He is the author of the international bestseller, The Bald Truth and he hosts a nationally syndicated radio program. “Our goal is to provide the truth to the public,” said Spencer. “When people contact us for help we try to guide them in a safe direction.”

Spencer shares his own experience with hair loss

Spencer said he first noticed hair loss when he was just 21. “I wasn’t prepared at such a young age. I was devastated. Hair loss affected the way I felt about myself. I didn’t feel comfortable in my own skin and it became more difficult to enjoy life. There are some people I have known my entire life who noticed I was depressed.”

A picture of Spencer Kobren talking about his book: The Bald Truth.

Spencer talks about his devastating hair loss experience and navigating the hair loss industry, which drove him to write the international best seller – The Bald Truth. “I was devastated,” said Spencer. “There are people I have known my entire life who noticed that I was depressed.”

“My hair loss regime has worked for years”

At the age of 22, Spencer said that he was determined to find a solution for his hair loss. Spencer started using Finasteride to prevent further thinning. He still uses Finasteride today and creatively styles his hair. “My hair loss regimen has worked fairly well for years, but obviously it’s not perfect. I use besides medication, a cosmetic concealer to cover the crown.”

Spencer speaks candidly about the hair loss industry

“When I was young I went to an agency in the US, at the time they basically sold wigs. But they don’t tell you it’s a wig place” said Spencer. “They were trying to sell me a hair piece, when really there was nowhere to put it – I would have to shave my head to wear it!”

That’s when Spencer said that he discovered the hair loss industry for the most part was a big con. “They were taking advantage of young people who were dealing with hair loss. So I decided to write a book, The Bald Truth about my experience trying to navigate the hair loss industry. I was lucky enough to show my book to Simon & Schuster back in 1997 and it was published in 1998. It’s been published in five languages now.”

Spencer talks about how The Bald Truth opened doors to new and exciting ventures. “I was getting a lot of interviews from my book and started to do some radio work. I was on a well-known radio talk show in New York and the program director suggested I could do this every week. The next thing I knew I’m hosting my own radio show, Spencer Kobren’s The Bald Truth.”

Dr. Rahal is called “Hairline King” by his patients and online hair transplant communities. He is also recommended by The American Hair Loss Association. “I consider Dr. Rahal one of the top hair surgeons in the world” said Spencer.

“I want to guide hair loss sufferers in a safe direction”

Success from Spencer’s book and radio show evolved into The American Hair Loss Association and IAHRS recommended surgeons. “I decided to start a non-profit organization, basically to provide hair loss sufferers a safe place” said Spencer. “Hair loss sufferers could get useful information on doctors, the industry and about hair loss in general, without selling any products or services.”

“Dr. Rahal is one of the top hair surgeons in the world”

Spencer recommends only consulting with truly qualified hair transplant surgeons and explained that Dr. Rahal is highly recommended by the AHLA. “I’ve seen the infrastructure of his practice and watched him evolve over time. This guy is here to help people and he seems to be helping a lot of guys. In my view he’s doing some stellar work and it’s really consistent. I consider Dr. Rahal one of the top hair surgeons in the world.”

“I HAVE MY LIFE BACK. AND I’M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IT!”– Alcides tells his story

A picture of Alcides before & after his hair transplant in Ottawa with Dr. Rahal.

After many years of suffering a receding hairline and hiding under hats, Alcides Munoz scheduled a hair transplant with Dr. Rahal. A year later Alcides can’t believe the difference. “I’m really glad I’ve been given a second chance at having a full head of hair again,” said Alcides.

“Having confidence in the fashion industry is a must”

Alcides Munoz, 39, is part of the growing fashion industry in Ottawa, ON.  He is a photographer and Creative Director of fashion magazine, Fave. In this vanity-driven industry hair is a BIG deal.  “Having confidence in the fashion industry is a must,” said Alcides. “When I first noticed my hair thinning I became more self-conscious. I was young and in good shape and it just seemed so unfair. I thought this would only happen later in life.” In April 2012, Alcides took control of his hair loss. He scheduled an appointment with Dr. Rahal at his hair center in Ottawa, ON.

I’m really glad I’ve been given a second chance at having a full head of hair again. I feel very lucky to have Dr. Rahal in my city.

One year later, Alcides talks to us about his hair transplant in Ottawa. “Everyone was absolutely friendly. I knew from my consultation with Dr. Rahal what to expect.” Alcides felt comfortable and cared for during his procedure. “The procedure was great! I was really surprised that I did not experience any discomfort. They were always paying attention to my needs. They asked me what I wanted to eat, and they even gave me a movie to watch.  I was blown away by their attention to me.”

“Hair loss stole my identity”

Alcides told us how a receding hairline stole his identity. “Hair loss came as a shock for me,” said Alcides. “I looked at my uncles on either side of the family and noticed their hair started thinning much later when they were in their forties. I always thought it could happen to me but at a much older age.” Alcides started to hide his balding under hats. “I began wearing more and more hats. Each time I reached for a hat it would remind me of my hair loss.”

“Dr. Rahal is the King of Hairlines”

Alcides started researching a hair loss clinic online. “What really grabbed my attention was a combination of all the amazing before and after pictures on Dr. Rahal’s website,” said Alcides. Dr. Rahal had been labelled by his patients as the “King of Hairlines”, and he wanted these natural hairline results. “It was all about the hairline for me and I wanted to have a natural result.”

A picture of Alcides hairline before and after his hair replacement.

Alcides is pictured here before and 12-months after his procedure with Dr. Rahal. “Getting a hair transplant made me feel younger and people really noticed the difference,” said Alcides.

Do hair transplants work?

We asked Alcides if he has achieved his goal. “It’s hard to expect what your hair is going to look like at the time of the procedure. I wanted my hairline to look very natural,” said Alcides.

After a couple of months Alcides started to notice his hair changing. “Within a couple of months you could see a big change. Six months came about, then seven and eight and my hair just got better and better.”

Today Alcides boasts about his hair restoration. “People want to touch my hair, they want to pull it and they want to examine it.  I find it very flattering because they can’t believe I had this done. I am very happy I had a hair transplant. I feel very lucky to have Dr. Rahal in my city.”

“Having hair is very important”

Alcides told us how hair replacement transformed his life. “I’m losing weight because I feel happier with myself.” Alcides adds, “Getting a hair transplant made me feel younger and people really noticed the difference. I think having hair is very important. I do feel better about myself and that affects every part of my life. My family, my friends and of course my relationship have noticed this change. I’m really glad I’ve been given a second chance at having a full head of hair again.”

Spex Hair (Spencer Stevenson) a “Hair Loss Mentor”

Picture of Spex Hair (Spencer Stevenson) showing his website.

For over a decade Spencer Stevenson or “Spex” has helped everyday guys to high profile celebs deal with their individual concerns about hair loss. “I feel it’s important to help hair loss sufferers get the correct information,” said Spencer. Spencer is a world renowned hair loss mentor and advocate.

Spencer has helped educate hair loss sufferers for years

Spencer Stevenson, 37, also known as “Spex Hair” on hair transplant forums, is a world renowned hair loss mentor in England. He is respected by thousands of fellow hair loss sufferers including A-list celebrities. Spencer has helped educate, empower and advise hair loss sufferers for over ten years.  “I really enjoy enabling hair loss sufferers to get as much information and feel empowered with the options available to them,” said Spencer.

Dr. Rahal is world renowned for his very natural hairlines. He is known for his artistic ability and he is one of the very best.

Spencer talks about how he became involved in the hair loss industry. “The reason I do this is because the internet was not around when I had my first hair transplant. I was 24-years-old at the time and ill-informed.  I ended up having FIVE unsatisfactory hair transplant procedures by questionable clinics.”

“They told me what I wanted to hear, not what I needed to know”

A good hair restoration doctor will inform a patient of ALL the risks involved in surgery.  Spencer explains, “These questionable clinics didn’t inform me of the risks and all the eventualities that could happen. They told me what I wanted to hear and not what I needed to know. They told me everything was going to be fine.”

“I want to make hair transplant patients aware of all the risks”

Spencer helps hair loss sufferers get the correct information online through his hair blog and forums. “Once I had been repaired (by Dr. Feller in New York) I felt it was important to help hair loss sufferers get the correct information,” said Spencer. “I want to inform and make people fully aware of FDA approved preventative treatments.”

Spencer explains how hair loss is progressive. “It’s very important that patients understand that hair loss is progressive.  And it is vital hair loss sufferers are aware they may need further surgery.” He adds, “Patients might not be able to achieve the goals that they first thought were possible through a hair transplant. They need to be made aware of all the risks involved. That’s my role and I very much enjoy it.”

A picture of Spencer Stevenson before and after his hair restoration.

Spencer is shown here before and after his successful hair transplant surgery with Dr. Feller, in New York. “My hair finally looks natural and age appropriate,” said Spencer.

What are the challenges faced as a hair loss mentor and advocate?

We asked Spencer what challenges he faces in the hair loss industry. “Most hair transplant patients don’t want to expose any devices they use. In the USA it’s a little bit more openly discussed. But I do find here in the UK we are a little bit more tight-lipped about hair transplants.” Spencer adds, “The media is helping change cultural values. The hair loss industry is getting a lot of media attention now. Celebrities are coming out and making the public aware of hair restoration.”

“Hair loss is a horrible curse that is out of our control”

Spencer told us how he was traumatized by hair loss, and why it’s important to shed light on the situation. “It really affected my confidence at such a young age. I became a recluse and lived under a hat. I would avoid social events and became isolated. This is something I do still feel when I interact with a lot of hair loss sufferers.”

Spencer understands the feelings of anxiety that come with thinning hair. “It’s a horrible curse that is out of our control,” said Spencer. “The younger you are the harder it is, and for me it was traumatic. My hair loss affected my dating life because it stripped me of my confidence. I couldn’t interact with the opposite sex. I felt like I didn’t have a great deal to offer them. It was a hard time. It is a reality that hair loss can make you feel inadequate. I now try to help other guys avoid that depression.”

What hair loss treatments did you try? (Plugs, drugs and rugs)

We asked Spencer what type of treatment for hair loss he tried before his procedure. “I started to lose my hair at the age of 21,” said Spencer. “I first tried Minoxidil and other hair loss concoctions. But they never really prevented my balding. I then tried a wig system, which just looked hideous.  I wore this wig system for a matter of weeks and then I had to get it taken off my head.” After several failed attempts to find a treatment for thinning hair that worked for him, Spencer decided to have a hair transplant. “I went down the road of hair restoration at the age of 24. It basically set me up for a long, tedious hair journey.”

How much did you spend on hair transplants?

Spencer had a total of ten hair transplants to correct his receding hairline. He explains to us how much money he spent over the years. “I sort of down play it but I spent around £40k on all the different surgeries. This is taking into account the airfare and hotels.”

What is the secret of a successful hair transplant?

Spencer reveals to us the secret of a successful hair transplant. “It’s all about educating people and research. I want people to be aware of great hair restoration surgeons like Dr. Rahal.”

Dr. Rahal is called the “Hairline King.” How important are hairlines?

We asked Spencer how important it is to have a natural hairline. “Hairlines frame your face. They are essentially the most natural part of the hair transplant procedure. It’s vital.” Spencer explains, “Before I got my hairline repaired it did not look natural and I felt people would notice.”

Spencer talks about Dr. Rahal and hairlines. “Dr. Rahal is world renowned for his very natural hairlines. He densely packs the hairline.” He adds, “Dr. Rahal is known for his artistic ability and he is one of the very best. I know he has a lot of patients that travel all over the world to see him.”

How does your hair look today?

Spencer explains how his hairline looks now. “No one would know I had any issues. My hair looks natural. It is slightly higher but very age appropriate.” Spencer adds, “I responded very well to Finasteride. This has helped maintain and preserve my hair. I am also very confident with my hair now. After all the money I invested and tears over it, I ironically don’t spend much time thinking about my hair anymore.”

“It’s Just hair, what’s the big deal?”

We asked Spencer how he would respond to “it’s just hair what’s the big deal” argument.  Spencer replied, “Until you experience a particular illness or disease yourself, it is not possible to comprehend the issues that are associated. Unfortunately hair loss sufferers have to put up with throwaway comments that are made by none hair loss sufferers who don’t appreciate how privileged they are to have a full head of hair.”

“I FEEL BLOWN AWAY BY MY NATURAL HAIRLINE”– Craig tells his story

A picture of Craig before and after his FUE Hair transplant in Toronto.

A picture of Craig before and after his hair transplant with Dr. Rahal. He had 2200 follicular units to recreate his hairline. “I feel blown away by my natural hairline,” said Craig.

“I knew Dr. Rahal was the best at hairlines”

Craig, 43, is an Investment Broker from Toronto, ON. He first heard about Dr. Rahal’s reputation online. “I didn’t have hair loss on my crown. I had really bad recession and wanted a natural result. I also wanted to have my FUE hair transplant in Toronto. I knew Dr. Rahal was the best at hairlines after reading about him on forums like the Hair Transplant Network. I could not find any bad reviews about him.”

Sometimes I look in the mirror and I have to laugh. I can’t believe the difference! Dr. Rahal has demonstrated that his hairlines are second to none.

Watch a video of Craig’s results and listen to his testimonial.

How did hair loss make you feel?

Craig told us that he first noticed his receding hairline in his late twenties. “I didn’t like it at all. It really bothered me. I thought about my hair loss a lot more than I should have. It got to the point where getting a haircut worried me. On days when I couldn’t be bothered getting up and styling my hair I would wear a hat.”

The weather dictated if Craig would go out or not. “I was afraid to go out on windy days because of my hair. When I went on vacation and wanted to jump in the water I was scared of getting my hair wet because then people could really see my receding hairline.”

A picture of Craig before and after his FUE hair transplant.

Achieving an undetectable hairline is possible with a FUE hair transplant. And because the grafts are harvested individually, there is no linear scar. “I am happy with my results, and I have no scar,” said Craig.

“I felt well informed and good about my decision”

Craig compares Dr. Rahal to a pilot during his procedure. “It was almost like talking to a pilot and feeling confident you’re safe because he has so many years of experience. I researched another hair clinic in Toronto, but none seemed to beat the results of Dr. Rahal. I also met with some of Dr. Rahal’s patients before my procedure in the hotel nearby and we discussed cost and results. That’s when I realized there are people who have had hair replacement and you just can’t tell because their results look so natural.”

What kind of hair loss treatment did you try? (Plugs, drugs and rugs)

In the past Craig had tried other hair loss remedies. “Propecia had limited results for me, and I was tired of worrying about my hair loss. I couldn’t do this to myself anymore and felt the only way to solve the problem was to have a hair transplant.” Craig adds, “I still use Propecia and Rogaine to prevent hair loss, but the ONLY permanent solution for me was hair restoration.”

“Dr. Rahal is the best at creating natural hairlines”

Craig told us how he feels about his hair replacement. “Sometimes I look in the mirror and I have to laugh. I can’t believe the difference! Dr. Rahal has demonstrated that his hairlines are second to none.”

Hair Transplant Forum Advocate (Bill Seemiller) Helps Thousands of Hair Loss Sufferers

A picture of hair transplant forum advocate, Bill Seemiller.

Hair transplant forum advocate, Bill Seemiller, helps people all over the world deal with their individual concerns about hair loss.

Bill Seemiller, 36, is the Managing Publisher of the Hair Transplant Network, the Hair Loss Learning Center, the Hair Loss Q&A Blog and the Hair Restoration Forum and Social Network  Bill has helped educate and support thousands of hair loss sufferers around the world through his involvement in the hair transplant forum. “I know first-hand how difficult it can be to battle and cope with hair loss. Thus, it makes me happy to support and provide others with the necessary tools to find solutions that best suit them,” said Bill.

What hair loss treatments did you try? (Plugs, drugs and rugs)

Bill suffered from alopecia when he was only 21-years-old. It was upsetting. He tried everything to re-grow his hair but nothing seemed to work. “I tried a number of solutions. The first hair loss treatment was Rogaine 5% liquid. While it appeared to be working, I foolishly stopped taking it for a while. When I started using it again, it caused significant scalp irritation.” Bill attempted a watered down 2% solution of Minoxidil but it had limited results. He tried several other hair loss treatments for men. “I tried a number of alternative treatments such as Revivogen, Nioxin, Nism and more – all with no real success.”

Bill hid his hair loss under hats. “Since I was very fond of and always wore hats during my youth, I concealed my balding with hats just about every time I went out. When my hair loss became pretty obvious I wouldn’t go anywhere without a hat. I would often avoid social activities that required me to take my hat off.”

Bill decided that the only solution to regrow his lost hair was a hair transplant. It was this wake-up call that not only changed Bills life but spurred him to help others. Bill explains, “I was so satisfied with my own hair transplant experiences that I wanted to give back by helping others meet their own hair restoration goals.”

A picture of Bill Seemiller before and after his fourth hair transplant.

Before, Bill had a receding hairline and thinning on the crown. After, Bill had a successful fourth hair transplant procedure to create this natural and denser result.

“I never thought I’d be so happy to have a bad hair day”

We asked Bill why having hair is so important. “Hair is as important as someone makes it out to be.  In reality, hair does not make the man (or woman). However, hair loss can have a deep psychological impact on many who experience it.  It certainly had an effect on me and restoring it stopped me from always obsessing about my hair.  I never thought I’d be so happy to have a bad hair day,” replied Bill.

“Hair loss sufferers often have a distorted body image”

Hair loss can be absolutely devastating for the sufferer’s self-image and emotional well-being. Bill explains, “Hair loss affects everyone differently. However, it can be a large contributor to anxiety (or even depression). How we feel about ourselves (which in part stems from the way we feel about how we look) can have a negative impact on how we respond and relate to others. Thus, hair loss sufferers often have a distorted body image, are more self-aware of their thinning hair (even if others wouldn’t even notice) and often lack at least some confidence necessary for a healthy dating life.”

Is hair loss affecting your relationships? Click here.

Does a hair transplant work?

Advances in modern technology, state-of-the art micro-surgical techniques, and scientific breakthroughs have made hair restoration an option for both men and women. It can be life-changing. “Hair transplants, when done right, can be so natural looking that even hair stylists can’t detect them. As a patient I have had some interesting conversations with friends and family regarding their view on hair transplantation. Those I tell about my own journey and transplanted hair often have a hard time believing me because of how natural it looks,” said Bill.

“Dr. Rahal should be considered for hair transplant surgery”

We asked Bill if he would recommend Dr. Rahal for a hair transplant procedure. Bill replied, “In my opinion, Dr. Rahal is world renowned and should be considered for hair transplant surgery.”

“Dr. Rahal’s ability to create highly refined natural looking hairlines has always impressed me.”

Dr. Rahal is labeled by patients as the “King of Hairlines” in online reviews. Bill explains, “Dr. Rahal’s ability to create highly refined natural looking hairlines has always impressed me.

As the managing publisher of the Hair Transplant Network, I’ve seen dozens of examples of Dr. Rahal’s results.  I’ve also seen some very impressive results of his in person.”

How do you select the best hair transplant doctor?

Bill explains what potential patients should look for when selecting a hair transplant doctor. “In my opinion, a good hair transplant surgeon will employ cutting edge, state-of-the-art techniques; have a long history of producing natural looking results, and put a patient’s needs and goals ahead of technical dogma.”

Looking for a hair transplant doctor? Click here.

Bill adds, “I would personally recommend hair transplant surgery by a qualified surgeon as a possible option to anyone whose life has somehow been negatively affected by hair loss.” To see the advanced criteria used to recommend surgeons on the hair restoration social network visit the physician selection standards page.

I’ve seen dozens of examples of Dr. Rahal’s results. I’ve also seen some very impressive results of his in person,” said Bill.

Why did you get involved in the hair loss industry?

Bill first got involved in the Hair Transplant Network forum as a prospective patient considering hair transplant surgery. “During my initial research, I found Patrick Hennessey (publisher of the Hair Transplant Network) and read all about his personal journey and viewed his before and after photos.”

“Dr. Rahal is world renowned and should be considered for hair transplant surgery.”

Bill was impressed with how Pat provided helpful advice and support to men and women suffering with hair loss. “I admired Pat’s dedication to help others by finding and recommending only physicians that he’d trust with his own scalp.”

In 2004, Bill became a regular poster on the hair loss network after having his first hair transplant procedure. “I underwent my first hair transplant with a local doctor recommended on the Hair Transplant Network, in Pennsylvania.”

Bill explains how he felt inspired to help other hair loss sufferers because of his successful hair transplant. “My successful hair transplant surgery from physicians recommended on the Hair Transplant Network provided me with a lot of passion to give back to the overall patient community.”

“I’m a patient advocate but many consider me an online mentor.”

Posting regularly on the Hair Transplant Network blog became a hobby for Bill. “After approximately two years and creating over 4000 helpful discussions and posts on this discussion forum, Pat hired me as the part-time Associate Publisher. In time, I became the full time Managing Publisher of this community.”

Bill underwent four hair transplant procedures and just over 9600 grafts in a five year span. “This restored not only a large portion of my hair but my lost confidence as well,” said Bill. You can view more before and after hair transplant photographs of Bill on his hair loss website.

Get your confidence back through hair. Click here.

Have you ever been touched by someone’s hair loss story?

Bill talks about the most rewarding part of his job. “I am touched and inspired by someone’s story and hair restoration journey just about every day.”  Bill explains, “The most rewarding part of my position is when someone who was previously devastated by hair loss is transformed into a confident and positive individual because they found and implemented a viable solution that worked for them.” He adds, “In many cases, this is finding and undergoing hair transplant surgery with a world renowned surgeon recommended on the Hair Transplant Network.”

Why are online forums important?

Having a men and women’s hair loss forum is important. Bill explains, “Men and women often find it difficult discussing their concerns about hair loss with friends and family members. Thus, discussion forums provide hair loss sufferers with an anonymous way to discuss an otherwise difficult topic with others with similar concerns.”

Hair loss forums enable an international audience to share and exchange ideas, and discuss treatments that have and haven’t worked for them. “Hair loss discussion forums not only provide balding men and women worldwide with the support they need, but they are a potential consumer’s best resource to learn what really works before undergoing any treatment,” said Bill.

Bill finalizes why the hair restoration network is important. “Frankly, nothing beats having your own personal questions answered directly and quickly by veteran patients and expert hair restoration physicians.”

“We preserve free speech and keep our forum balanced and fair”

The Hair Transplant Network forum understands the importance of transparency. “Ultimately, our discussion forum promotes free speech and allows patients to share their genuine experiences, photos and opinions good or bad regardless of the physician. This kind of transparency keeps our community and its recommendations credible and accountable and helps us assess a recommended physician’s ongoing work and results,” said Bill. He adds, “You can learn more about how we recommend hair transplant surgeons on our hair loss forum.”

What are the main obstacles faced in forums?

There is a great deal of misleading and confusing junk online concerning hair loss. Men and women fighting thinning hair come to the hair loss forums to get real information, direction, and support. “Our primary mission is to provide hair loss suffering men and women with the necessary tools to find support, treatments, and quality physicians,” said Bill.

The hair transplant industry is unregulated and a lot of potential patients are given false hope. Bill explains, “Late night infomercials and media providing false hope of a hair loss cure, coupled with the shame many men and women feel are major obstacles to accomplishing our mission.”

Are you ashamed of your hair loss? Talk to an expert.

Bill adds, “However, many men and women are now turning to the internet for answers, information, and support. All in all, I’d say we’re doing a pretty good job reaching a large male and female audience and helping them get past the hype and find treatments that really work.  I expect we’ll reach even more with continued efforts coupled with the persistent growth of the internet.”

What are your future goals in the hair loss industry?

Bill talks about the ultimate goal of the hair loss forums. “Our ultimate goal is to reach and help as many battling baldness as possible, and equip them with the necessary tools to make informed decisions. This includes determining which treatment(s) to use, and finding a world renowned surgeon for those considering hair transplant surgery.”

Bill has built his profession on the hope of changing the way we experience hair loss, and the way society treats hair loss sufferers. To contact Bill directly, you can email him at: help@hairtransplantnetwork.com. It’s important that you know you are not alone.

Video Transcription

Interviewer: Now for a lot of people there comes a time when hair gets a little bit thinner, little bit greyer and there just seems to be less of it. And maybe a hair transplant wasn’t what you were hoping to have but now hair transplants have an extra cool factor because surgery just got robofied. You heard me correctly. Today, for the first time ever in Canada a robot and surgeon buddied up on a hair transplant. Dr. Rahal is fresh out of the operating room and he joins me now. So, can you tell me what happens in a hair transplant procedure?

Dr. Rahal: Well, typically in a hair transplant procedure we want to remove hair from the back, what we call a donor area. A donor area is genetically programmed not to be lost in the future. So we want to take those hairs and we want to put them in the front or the top or even on the crown depending on the individual patient. These hairs have to obviously survive and the method of taking them out, the procedure ensures their survival. And this is where the technology is advancing.

Considering ARTAS hair restoration? Click here.

Interviewer: So, in the past you’ve done this by hand, and now what exactly is the robot doing in this procedure?

Dr. Rahal: The robot what it does it has two cameras right in the front. It’s basically mapping out the grid -the grid has all the hairs that it wants to remove. It will precisely to a very, very small factor calculate the angle of where these hairs exit from the back of the skin or the head and calculates the direction so when the punch moves in to the skin to be able extract those grafts its going at the precise angle that those hairs are coming out. And the reason that is so important is it’s a very small punch, it’s between .9mm and 1 mm punch. You want it to go right over the hair and the route in a cylinder. And so if you’re off by a very small degree you can actually damage the follicle, which is something we don’t want to happen.

Interviewer: That makes a lot of sense. So are robots better at doing this than a human? Are they faster, are they slower?

Dr. Rahal: It’s a little bit more fast, a little bit more precise than the human. And that’s where the advantage of the robot makes this procedure, I guess, more available to many patients because you can do a lot more grafts in one setting or one session.

Interviewer: Is this thing flying solo or is there somebody overseeing the procedure while the robot does its work?

Considering a robotic hair transplant? Click here.

Dr. Rahal: There’s usually three people operating it, so it’s not something that you set it and leave it and go for coffee and come back. It’s something that we have to basically assist it, so we have to guide it to where it goes. We are always monitoring and looking over the grafts that are being removed, to make sure that everything is on track. So it’s not, in a typical surgery you need 7, 10 even 12 people. In this case you’re narrowing it down to three well trained individuals and that’s going to create more efficiency and I guess less manpower.

Interviewer: When you’re doing procedures with the robot you obviously have to think about worst case scenarios. What is the worst thing that could go wrong with a robot pulling hairs out of the back of somebody’s head?

Dr. Rahal: Well, not really much because we are controlling the speed of the extraction, we can control the depth of the extraction, we can control the speed of it and the angle so essentially it is automated but at the same time we are still overriding it. As far as risks, as far as anything, in term of any procedure the patient has to be healthy, the patient is monitored. We want to look at their other factors so that they are good candidates for the surgery in the first place. But as far as the robot per se, versus a technically manual one there is no extra risk.

Interviewer: So the robot helps get the hair out from the back of the head, but does the robot play a part in putting the hair back in at the top or the front of the head?

Considering ARTAS hair restoration? Click here.

Dr. Rahal: At this point no, at this point we still have to do that particular part of the procedure manually. We need to make those incisions manually; we need to plant those grafts in manually. According to the research there will be the next phase where the robot will actually make the incisions. I don’t think it’s ever going to do the implanting, but that is a possibility. The next part of this is it’s going to make the incisions and then potentially to put the implanting in.

Interviewer: Do you ever foresee a day when the robots will be able to do the whole thing from start to finish?

Dr. Rahal: If possible it’s going to be at least ten years away. I don’t think…You’re always going to need a human hand, a human touch. With the hair transplant surgery there’s a lot of art to it. There’s science, of course, but there’s a lot of art to it. You know, designing a hairline, designing a hairline appropriate for the patient, make sure the patient is qualified; all these things are human factors. When it comes to the actual technical part of it, certainly, the robot and any other advances will play a bigger role.

Interviewer: So that human touch is still there for now??

Dr. Rahal: Yes, it will always be there, I feel. the human touch is always going to be there to guide it along.

Interviewer: Well, congratulations on pushing the technology forward. Thanks for talking to us, Dr.Rahal.

Dr. Rahal: Thank you, thank you very much.

“I WAS DEVASTATED”— Sam’s unsuccessful hair transplant in Montreal stopped him from enjoying life. Then he found Dr. Rahal.

A picture of Sam before and after his hair transplant with Dr. Rahal.

Before and eight months after Sam had a hair transplant procedure with Dr. Rahal to repair his hairline and low density – totaling 3231 follicular unit grafts. “I am 120% happy I had the procedure with Dr. Rahal. I would never go through anyone else again,” said Sam.

He was young and handsome. Then his hair started to fall out. Panicking, Sam rushed to find a permanent solution to fix his hair loss problem. He came across the first hair restoration clinic available and scheduled his hair transplant in Montreal. Having done the bare amount of research and with little knowledge of hair transplants, it ended up a total disaster.

Years later, Sam discovered Dr. Rahal for repair work. Today Sam has his life back on track, and no one can tell he’s ever had a hair transplant.

Sam, a 42-year-old professional, suffers from Androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness). Hair loss had plagued his family for generations. Both his grandparents and his father had very little hair. Sam knew eventually this family tradition would hit him. But what he wasn’t prepared for was how hard.

Hair loss crept up on Sam when he was in the prime of his youth. He was a young and handsome twenty something year old who loved sport and the outdoors. Thinning hair was devastating. He started to withdraw from life.

“I’m 42-years-old and there is a lot of hair loss in my family. Both my grandparents and my father had very little hair. I knew I was going to lose my hair at some point. It was always on my mind. And around 15-years ago my hair started falling out. I suffered from a receding hairline and thinning on the crown. It bothered me. My hair loss made me look much older than my age.”

Sufferers of male pattern baldness are inheriting hair follicles with a genetic sensitivity to Dihydrotesterone (DHT). It accounts for more than 95% of hair loss in men. The hair follicles that are sensitive to DHT begin to miniaturize, cutting the lifespan of each hair follicle affected.

Panicking about hair loss

My first hair implant was around eight years ago and not with Dr. Rahal. I did not get the results I had hoped. I went back to that original hair loss clinic and talked to them about my concerns. I felt like I was being rushed into making a decision and did not feel great about having another procedure with them.  If I had known about Dr. Rahal at the time, I would have gone to him 100% and got a much better hair procedure.

How do you choose Dr. Rahal?

I had heard a lot of positive recommendations about Dr. Rahal from friends of mine who had undergone hair transplant surgery with him at his hair loss center.  I also read very positive reviews online. So I decided to call Dr. Rahal and schedule an appointment.

“Dr. Rahal showed a genuine care. I did not feel like I was being pushed on the cost, like the other clinic.”

During the consultation with Dr. Rahal,  he told me that I was not ready for a hair transplant and to come back in one year to see how it was going. Dr. Rahal wanted to really optimize the procedure, which I liked. He showed a genuine care, and I did not feel like I was being pushed on the cost, like the other clinic.

How does your hair look now?

I had the surgery eight months ago and I am 120% happy I had the procedure with Dr. Rahal. I would never go through anyone else again. It was a total success.

I had Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and 3231 grafts to create a natural hairline and overall density. Dr. Rahal is one of the best in the world for this type of procedure, kudos to him. My hair looks totally awesome and I am only eight months in. No one can tell that I have had a hair transplant.

Did you try any other hair loss treatments (Plugs, drugs, or rugs)?

I did not try any hair loss treatments before my procedure. But after my surgery that changed. I now take Proscar 1/4 pill a day and apply Rogaine twice daily to maintain my hair.

“A hair transplant will change your life”

If you are worried about losing your hair then go ahead and have a hair transplant. It will change your life. I feel awesome about my hair now, and I’m happy when I look in the mirror.”

It’s time to break the family tradition (Like Sam) of balding and act NOW – while you still have hair! Call 1-877-551-2171 for professional advice and schedule your FREE hair consultation.

A year after hair transplant surgery by Dr. Rahal, Michael has regained his self confidence. He’s showing up for his life again — playing sports, socializing, exercising, and losing weight.

A year after hair transplant surgery by Dr. Rahal, Michael has regained his self confidence. He’s showing up for his life again — playing sports, socializing, exercising, and losing weight.

Michael (not his real name) is a 30-year old professional living in Montreal. He loves sports, loves socializing, but found himself withdrawing from life because of insecurity about his receding hairline. Despite reassurance and support from his wife, he felt his world getting smaller and smaller.

Just a year after hair transplant surgery by Dr. Rahal, Michael has regained his self confidence. He’s showing up for his life again — playing sports, socializing, exercising, and losing weight.

“I’m 30 years old and started noticing hair loss in my 20’s. When I was 24 or 25, I realized my hairline was receding and I didn’t have the same volume of hair as when I was younger. When I parted my hair it was difficult to cover up the hair loss.  I felt as if it was the end of the world. It meant I was getting older, that there was no turning back. It was depressing.

Knowing I had hair loss made me feel horrible. When talking to someone, I always felt like their eyes were on my hairline. I’d feel so insecure that sometimes I wouldn’t go outside. Or it would be raining and I wouldn’t want to leave the house because, if my hair got wet, the hair loss would be obvious. On personal and social levels, it was very limiting. It hurt my ego, made me insecure. I felt handicapped. I wasn’t living at my fullest. Socially, I couldn’t participate in things I enjoyed.

Making excuses

I’d always loved playing sports — hockey, golf, swimming, whatever. And I loved socializing. If I wasn’t working, I liked to be around people. But my hair was thinning at the front and it was getting very difficult to style my hair to hide it. I ended up not wanting to play hockey because I’d have to style my hair all over again. Or going swimming, I wouldn’t put my head in the water. I’d tell people the chlorine bothered my eyes. I knew that once I wet my hair, my thin, receding hairline would be very obvious. I became restricted in what I was able to do. I wasn’t happy. I felt like a fraction of the person I really was.

I was spending so much emotional energy trying to hide my hair loss, I knew I couldn’t go on like this. I decided to shave my head to see where my hair loss was at. I remember being in the shower and totally breaking down. That was my bottom — the explosion of all my emotions and insecurities. That’s when I decided I had to do something.

“Others told me I’d just have to live with it”

I researched and got educated online about hair transplant surgery. A lot of sites show extreme hair loss cases I couldn’t relate to. I went to different hair transplant clinics and got bad news. They told me I had to be almost completely bald to even consider hair transplant surgery.

Receding hairline? Click here

That made me even more depressed. I’d just have to live with it. They said you have to have a significant problem before they could do anything. They told me that my receding hairline wasn’t bad enough to have hair transplant surgery. But my hair loss was bad enough for me!

Then I found Dr. Rahal’s website. In the testimonials and before & after photos I saw cases that looked similar to my problem. I googled Dr. Rahal and visited a lot of forums and chat rooms and saw he gets very good reviews from past patients.

A preemptive strike on hair loss

I booked an appointment with Dr. Rahal. I told him I wanted to make a ‘preemptive strike’ on my hair loss. I wanted to regain the look of my youth. He understood me right away. He told me I wasn’t crazy, and that it was possible to get what I wanted. After meeting with Dr. Rahal, I asked myself, ‘Why waste more of my life? I’m just going to do it and that’s it.’

Want a youthful hairline again?

The hair transplant operation was not painful. The only thing I felt was the shot to numb my scalp. Nothing more than that — no discomfort. I’ve had smaller operations and procedures where, believe me, I remember the discomfort as though it was yesterday. I don’t even remember Dr. Rahal’s operation.

Dr. Rahal’s nickname is ‘The Hairline King™’ That’s exactly what I was going for – a youthful hairline. He’s at the top of his game; the guy to go to. My hair is very natural looking now. It’s perfect for a person my age. He knew what he was doing. The proof is in my hairline.

Insecurities? Gone. Confidence? Strong.

A year later, there’s no comparison to what my hair was like before. Today I have considerably more hair. You can’t rewind the clock, but this is as close as you can get. The problems I had because of thinning hair — ego, confidence, withdrawing from sports and social activities – these things are not problems any more. I don’t stop myself from doing anything because of hair loss. Before the surgery, I’d go swimming but wouldn’t get my hair wet. Fast-forward a year — I went on vacation and didn’t hold myself back. I jumped headfirst into the water. It changed things on a big scale. Now I can do whatever I want to do.

The problems I had because of thinning hair – withdrawing from sports and social activities – these things are not problems any more.

Withdrawing from life? Click here

Was it worth the money? Yes. I’m an average person making average money but, believe me, the things worth spending money on are those that bring you joy — that’s really what money’s for. That’s why I don’t regret it.

Surgery was his secret – and still is

I told only my wife and parents I was doing this. I just didn’t want anybody to know. Dr. Rahal’s process allowed me to keep it a secret. Before surgery, my wife would say, ‘You look great,’ but no matter what she said, I still felt the way I felt. Today she says, ‘Wow, what a huge difference! You look the same as when I met you.’ Today, friends notice something different about me. They think I look younger but they can’t tell I had hair transplants.

Your surgery is your secret. Click here

If others are thinking about hair transplant surgery, make sure you’re going with the right doctor. Do your research and be certain you feel comfortable with that person. Once you’re ready psychologically, just do it. Don’t wait. You won’t regret going forward. But if you wait, you’ll regret waiting.

I’m very happy. I wanted to regain the look of my youth and I have. Dr. Rahal was very clear that transplant surgery would restore my lost hair but it would not stop future loss if there was to be any. But if hair loss continues in the future, I’ll have surgery again without hesitation.

“MY PASSION FOR ADVENTURE HAS RETURNED”– Michael tells his story

Picture of Michael in Cape Town after hair replacement for men.

Just seven months after hair transplant surgery, Michael has regained his confidence. His passion for adventure has returned. He’s exploring new places and experiencing new things.

Michael York is a 32-year-old outdoor enthusiast. He has a passion for adventure – traveling, camping and hiking. But hair loss was stopping him from enjoying life.

Then he found Dr. Rahal.

Only seven months after his hair replacement for men, Michael has regained his confidence. His passion for adventure has returned. He’s exploring new places and experiencing new things.

“I’m 32-years-old, from the west coast of Nevada in the United States. My passion for the outdoors developed at the age of 18, when I started hiking and camping outside to lose weight. I weighed just over 300 pounds!

It was hard work, but I finally lost the weight and started to get my confidence back. Just when I was feeling good about myself, my hair started falling out, and I withdrew from life. You can control your weight but not your hair loss.  It was one challenge after another.

Take control of your hair loss

“Hair loss affected all aspects of my life”

Having a hair transplant transformed my life. I left a corporate job of ten years to study and become a nurse.

I became so preoccupied with hair loss in my early twenties that it affected my relationships. Rather than go out with my friends and socialize, I thought about toupees and other ways to cover up my head.

My hair loss would get me down and stop me from doing the things I enjoyed. Eventually it started to affect all aspects of my life. It affected the way I perceived myself in the mirror every day, my work and my personal life. Hair loss became devastating all the way around.

“I felt ashamed of my hair loss”

I felt afraid to ask a doctor for help about my hair loss. Instead I traveled to Europe and got over-the-counter Proscar (Finasteride).  In the United States you need a prescription for this hair loss drug. In Europe you don’t.

I ended up taking Proscar pills (from Europe) years before I ever consulted with a doctor. But my hair continued to fall out.  I researched online for alternative treatments and eventually discovered Rogaine. It worked to an extent, but by that point it was way too late. I had lost a substantial amount of hair, and I was just trying to keep what I had.

Evaluate the latest hair loss treatments

How do you find the best hair transplant doctor?

I started researching online for hair implants for men and found Dr. Rahal off the Hair Transplant Network. At first I considered two hair restoration doctors from the hair loss forum. Looking at the before and after photos and reading their blogs. Ultimately, I decided to go with Dr. Rahal based on the patient photos I saw online.

It didn’t look like there was a better hair restoration surgeon out there.

I took a chance and booked my flight for my consultation. Dr. Rahal’s staffs made me feel very comfortable. I was very impressed by the level of service and professionalism. All my questions were answered, and I went into the procedure knowing exactly what to expect.

Describe your hair transplant procedure?

During my procedure I did not feel any discomfort. On a scale of one to ten (ten being the highest level of pain), I would say the level of pain was a two. It was very tolerable. I had a total of 4500 grafts around the hairline and over the crown.

The hair transplant improved my hair quality tremendously.

My new hairline has re-framed my face and made me look much younger. In two weeks, I will be at seven months post-op.  It’s comforting to know my hair is still improving.

Picture of Michael seven months after his hair transplant surgery.

Only seven months after his hair transplant surgery by Dr. Rahal, Michael has regained his self-confidence. His life is back on track, and he is studying to become a nurse.

“People can’t believe how amazing my hair looks”

No one can guess I had a hair transplant. My cousin is a cosmetologist, and she can’t even tell. She has clients come in from other doctors with shoddy hair transplants, but she really can’t believe how amazing and natural my hair looks.

Hair restoration for men transformed my life. I left a corporate job of ten years to study and become a nurse. I plan on taking the program this fall. Being a nurse will open up a lot of opportunities for me, especially in travel.

I want a fuller head of hair!

What advice can you give to someone considering a hair transplant?

When looking for hair transplants for men, I would say it’s very important to do your research. I became an active member on the Hair Transplant Network, which is a valuable source of transparent information for young men.

I am very involved in the hair loss forums. A lot of people reach out and ask me about Dr. Rahal because I documented my procedure so well.

My advice is don’t rush into anything, and keep your expectations realistic.
