Growing up, Mike always got complimented for his thick and healthy hair. Through his hair, Mike felt confident and had an outgoing personality. But, deep-down Mike had a gut-wrenching feeling that the family tradition of hair loss would eventually catch up with him.

Tell me about yourself?
“My name is Mike. I’m 38-years old and married with two little girls. I run a landscaping company in Toronto, and have about 15 to 20 employees that work for me.
In the summer I am a budding golfer. My putting isn’t too bad. I did once hit a sizzling five-iron which soared over the trees taking my spirits with it. But, between the passable shots there are always several absolute horrors with no rhythm. Golf is undeniably my favorite hobby.

How did hair loss make you feel?
My grandfather (on my mother’s side) suffered from balding, and deep down I had that gut-wrenching feeling that it would eventually happen to me.
The sad part about it was that I had great hair. It was the first thing people noticed about me. I would always get compliments about how thick and healthy my hair looked.

What made you decide to do something about it?
I tackled my hair loss by joking about it with work colleagues. I thought that if I joked about my situation then people wouldn’t attack me first. This grew into paranoia. I always felt my workers were staring at my head.
I eventually decided to ask one of my trusted neighbors for advice about my thinning hair. The front part of my hair was 85% gone. So I was worried what he would suggest. My neighbor told me that if I decided to go down the route of a hair transplant, it was not too late. That was a relief to hear.
I told my wife. My wife was not bothered by my thinning hair, but the thought of losing any more strands plagued my mind. My wife advised me to go ahead and have a hair transplant if losing my hair was bothering me that much.

I cut my hair really short. It helped. I also tried a hair loss product called Minoxidil and some other alternative treatments to help stop or in hopes of reversing the balding. However, these remedies did not work at all on me.
